3500 YR OLD ANCIENT LAPIS EGYPTIAN CAT MAU NECKLACEItem Number: mau1
$75.00 These beads were assembled in the Victorian period from elements found in the archeological excavations of that period. They were widely publicized and wearing such jewelry was fashionable for the elite. Because they reassembled and in most cases incomplete, we are selling the individual elements so more collectors can enjoy them. We were inspired to do so by Robert Lius statement in Collectable Beads, that the average collector will be unable to own a single ancient bead. Each is certified authentic.C.2650-2134 BC. Blue Egyptian Cat Lapis Bead mounted with sterling silver as a necklace and includes a 18" Sterling silver necklace chain. The amulet itself (not including the loop or bottom mount)measures.55"(14mm) height . Form nearly identical to the later faience beads which replaced them. This would make a great gift for a cat lover or a interesting conversation piece.
Cats or the Egyptian word Mau were highly revered by the Egyptians and played an important role in Ancient Egyptian society as they were useful for limiting the vermin in crops and harvests. Through exposure cats became domesticated and learned to coexist with humans. They were worshiped by the Egyptians and given jewelry in ancient hieroglyphics.
